Can I give my dog acetaminophen (Tylenol)?
✕Toxic for dogs
No. Acetaminophen can damage a dog’s liver and red blood cells. Never give it without a vet’s instructions.
Why acetaminophen (Tylenol) is dangerous
Dogs are less sensitive than cats, but a normal human dose can still harm a small dog’s liver. Many cold and flu medicines contain acetaminophen too.
Signs of poisoning
- Vomiting
- Brown or blue-gray gums
- Swelling of the face or paws
- Fast breathing
- Yellow gums or eyes (liver damage)
How much is dangerous?
Toxic doses are reachable with one or two tablets in small dogs.
